30.0×30.0×30.0cm, SOUND+MIXED MEDIA, 2017.

Exhibited at W+K+, Japan
Feb 23, 2017 - Mar 1, 2017

This work is a sound sculpture consisting of a 30cm diameter white sphere with 12 speaker units and a spotlight.
The sphere is illuminated by a spotlight from one direction, creating a light and dark effect.

Twelve loudspeakers are attached to this moon-sphere each of which produces their own sound thus enabling listeners to experience a multitude of sounds depending on their position in relation to the phases of the moon.
On the bright surface of the sphere, the speakers emit a sound symbolizing lightness, while the sounds emitted on the shadow side of the sphere symbolize darkness.
At the border, where lightness and darkness meet, both sounds play in harmony.

The sphere not only realizes a three-dimensional sound which conventional audio speakers cannot produce, it also enables listeners to select a sound by choosing their position in relation to the sphere.

From ancient times, the phases of the moon have been a source of inspiration for humanity. Just like people have given different names to moon’s various shapes and found a variety of meanings, listeners are inspired by the multifaceted soundscapes of “SAKU”.
